The camera shows Axton reading a book and mumbling the same phrase over and over again. Axton looks at the camera with a worried look on his face.Sigh my ancestor John Mustang was a good man,yea he captured a lot of slaves back when slavery was around, but when he took a stand the law hunted him down, and for ten years he ran had a family and gave him self up to save them.and his quote is"You can all ways out run the devil, but you can never out run your past."

that is probable the best quote for me right now,Sigh well I finally had dinner with my sister,it was nice I told her about some of my friends and gave her more information on the aliens, she envy s me she wishes that she can be out there helping with the fight, but she would never abandon her child just to save the planet, she's going to be a fantastic mother once that kid get's older well that's just one more person i'm fighting for.

Axton reaches under his bed and grabs a box, the camera shows Axton pulling out another book .Axton reaches for the camera and turns it off.

Ayame Kasagi takes a seat by herself. She has a tray with a small piece of boiled chicken, some carrots, and mashed potatoes. She looks at the food hesitantly for a full minute before finally lifting a fork and knife and cutting off a piece of chicken. She chews the piece slowly, a disappointed look crossing her face. A young man takes a seat across from her, chuckling and saying, "I'm guessing by that look the chicken's a bit bland."

Ayame shrugs, saying, "What I wouldn't give for a bit of soy sauce."

The man chuckles again, saying, "Yeah, I guess keeping everyone healthy doesn't included using a few spices. The best we can hope for is bit ketchup." He picks up one of three small cups of ketchup and offers it to Ayame. She hesitantly dips her pinky in it and tastes it. She gives an approving nod and takes the cup, dipping her chicken in. The man says, "Makes me wish I was here when you guys had that whole party thing."

Ayame glances at his lab coat, saying, "Don't you lab and engineering guys usually eat together, apart from the soldiers?"

"Yeah, but I was hoping to have a chance to have a chat with you." The man extends his hand towards Ayame. "I'm Dennis, by the way." Ayame reaches for his hand. "Dennis McAfree."

Ayame jerks her hand away, a sour look crossing her face. "So what do you want?" Ayame says curtly. "To curse me out? Petty revenge? Let me guess, the ketchup had something unpleasant mixed in it?"

Dennis laughs loudly, drawing the eyes of those around him. He takes a piece of his chicken and dips it into Ayame's ketchup, putting it in his mouth and chewing it. "I actually expected a much harsher reaction. Like, you jumping across the table and pounding my face in. And I'd except it. After all, you didn't get a chance to do it to Charles."

Ayame raises an eyebrow. "Sooooo.....you're not pissed."

Dennis smiles, saying, "Quite the contrary. I'm glad someone put that windbag in his place. You know, I always had to try and live up to his example. The wannabe little doctor always trying to be half as good as his big brother. I always said, though, skill isn't much if you don't have a good personality to go with it. And, for the most part so far, I was wrong."

Ayame relaxes a bit, realizing she had been holding her utensils like weapons. She puts them down and folds her hands, asking, "What do you mean, you were wrong? You don't believe that anymore?"

"Weeeeell, there were times when I had my doubts. His pushiness and general asshole-itude seemed to get him ahead while my general sense of morality actually seemed to hold me back. This was especially made evident when he was chosen for the X-COM project over me. He is better at the craft then I, but I had hoped my better attitude would have won out. I guess "the best of the best" only meant the skill."

Dennis smiles widely, continuing, "But you, my fair lady, proved to him that maybe it doesn't always pay to be a lecherous prick with delusions of grandeur. Hopefully, when he gets out of prison, he'll be a better person. I doubt it, but I can always hope. I, on the other hand, was chosen to take his place. So, in short, I'd like to thank you, as well as that other unfortunate woman who had the displeasure of meeting him." Again, Dennis extends his hand. With a smile, Ayame excepts it.

"So," Ayame says, continuing her dinner, "What made you want to join X-COM."

"Well, I'd be lying if I didn't share my brother's desire for getting his name in the annals of history, but I think I have something else that is a bit more important then that." Dennis reaches into his pocket, pulling out a wallet. He takes out a picture, handing it to Ayame.

The picture shows an attractive young woman with long blond hair. In her arms are two healthy young children around ten years of age, one a boy resembling Dennis, the other a girl resembling the woman. Ayame examines it carefully, asking, "Is this your family?"

"Indeed it is. The two perfect little tikes are pride and joy, Alexander and Jennifer, and the gorgeous angel holding them is my better half, Beatrice. I am here because the only thing I want more then being by their side is helping to protect them from our nasty alien foes."

Ayame hands him back the picture, saying, "Well, I'll make you a deal. You keep researching all the goodies we keep bringing back, and me and my fellow soldiers will use the fruits of your research to win this war."

"Deal," Dennis says, and the two stand up, both having finished their meals. As the two return their trays and exit the mess-hall, Dennis says, "I hope we can have another meal together some time." He looks at her hopefully. Ayame nods in agreement, and the two go their separate.

Well I decided to take a break from my training in the simulation room, and decided to watch all of our missions from our first contact to now man that's going to be a lot of videos to watch and study.

off topic I say Ayame talking to one of the whit coats in the cafeteria, after what happen to her i'm amazed to see her talking to another scientist, but it looked like she was hesitate for a moment but they started to talk and Ayame didn't smack him so I had no reason to go over there and smash his skull in to the table,Sigh man I don't have that much time left so I think i'm gonna go to the doctors and get one last check up before I head out.

Axton grabs his camera and turns it off.

I am starting to feel very claustrophobic in here, I have nothing to do all day and it's starting to get to me. I need to get some fresh air and maybe meet some of the inactive recruits and train them a little just to get me through the day. I've run out of cigarettes and Booker is never around; I need to email the commander asking him if I can get some fresh air. Hell maybe I'll even start writing more often in my journal to pass time.

This is a collaboration between ZombieSplitter53 and Zain Shah

Zain is extremely bored due to him not going on the last 2 missions so he heads over to the shooting range and finds Ayame. Zain goes up to Ayame and says "Hey you're one of the inactive recruits aren't you? Ayame isn't it? Do you want to do some practice so you're ready for your first mission."

Ayame salutes, saying, "Hello, Captain Shah. I-I would love some practice, sir"

Zain humbly says "Oh please call me Zain, sir seems too formal." He then says " So do you want to work on any certain type of training like shooting, taking cover or panicking out on the field."

"Um..." Ayame thinks for a moment. "Well, I don't have much experience shooting from cover. And any tips you can give me on panicking would be great, s...um, Zain."

Zain suddenly changes into talking in a serious tone "Firstly, not panicking is done all through forgetting any emotions you have to the person that may be shot or has died, unfortunately I made that same mistake on my very first mission." Zain starts to drift off topic "I just felt like I couldn't move a muscle, then after the mission I felt like sh*t."

Ayame gives a sympathetic look, saying, "I can see how that's difficult. Especially if you care about them. But, what happens if you're the one who is hit? It's hard to forget your emotion when you take a plasma shot to the arm."

Zain replies with "Well the Commander does a good job of keeping his troops safe even though Joel's death was in vain. Even though it is never easy getting shot, it's how much you believe in yourself and your skill; truth be told there is pretty much no way to forget, I still have a scar where I got shot." He rolls up his sleeve showing a huge scar on his arm, he then quickly rolls it back up.

Ayame's eyes dart back and forth in thought. Finally she nods, saying, "I think I understand, but, um... let's say I do panic. Do you have any tips for calming yourself down?"

Zain takes a deep breath and then continues " Well in the event that you are panicking, you need to start taking long, deep breaths and just take some time to gather your thoughts and while that may make you useless for a little while, it helps in the long run."

Ayame smiles. "Yes, I see, better to sit out and come back at full strength then to try to fight while freaking out and risk getting yourself, or someone else, killed. Thank you, I believe I understand."

Zain starts speaking in a friendly tone "Shooting from cover has a risk and reward factor, you can try and get the best position to shoot from cover but risk getting shot or get into a defensive position and hunker down and avoid taking shots at enemies." Then Zain thinks about what else to say and finally says "Most of the time the Commander will choose the better shooting option unless he feels like one of his recruits is particularly vulnerable."

"I guess the best thing to do changes based on the situation." An embarrassed look crosses Ayame's face. "I hate to admit it, and this probably doesn't surprise you, but I haven't been in many firefights, and I don't have a lot of experience with shooting from behind cover. Any advice?"

Zain smiles seeing a little bit of himself in her when he joined XCOM then says "Same here, I was just a hunter until I joined XCOM but what I learned is that the only way is to actually go out, start shooting and don't be put off if the Commander scolds you, the best way is to just take the advice you're given." Then he reaches into his pocket searching for a cigarette then sighs after realising he has none left.

Ayame, looking concerned, says "What's wrong? Did you lose something?"

Oh nothing, Zain thinks for a moment and then finally whispers "You know that day when the smoke alarm in my room went off, it was actually me smoking and now I've run out; it was what I mainly did when I was at base." Zain then quickly follows it up with "But you can't tell anyone, especially the Commander and Zhang."

Ayame shifts her eyes back and forth, and with a whisper says, "I actually have a pair of Fong for Lung in my room, a gift from a former lover. " She smiles. "Now if I tell on you, you can tell on me."

Zain smiles looking at Ayame then he says "I need to get going but be sure to see me if you ever need any advice or training, you can probably find me in my room." Zain puts his hand out for a handshake.

Ayame grasps his hand, saying, "I will, and thank you. It means a lot that you talked to me, a lowly rookie."

"Maybe this lowly rookie will become a colonel someday" said Zain encouraging Ayame and soon he leaves but not before giving a final wave.

Ayame smiles and waves back. She grabs her rifle, and resumes her training.

I just got back from officer training school today. Ever since the commander announced that three of us were going to be going active in two days my superiors said they were thinking of extending our daily training quotas in hopes of finding out what soldier classes they could organize the rest of the rookies into. Oh joy!

It's all the more stressful knowing Ayame, Anna or I could be one of the next three to go active. Don't get me wrong I want to do my part for the sake of humanity, and more then anything I want strike back at those shit heads who killed Colin. But after having been to two other funeral services between his death and now, my confidence in the commander has dwindled a fair bit, especially sine he was partially responsible for one of those deaths. I know I took an oath saying I accept the fact that I could be sacrificing my own life for the sake of this project, but I'm more determined then ever at this point to make sure that doesn't happen. See I kind of made another promise to somebody else that would kind of require me to actually be alive in order to fulfill it.

It's a shame that I had met someone like Ayame under these circumstances. I probably would have been less reluctant to return her affections had it not have been for this damn war. I didn't want to say anything more about the subject to her after the night she'd gotten drunk, but between then and a few days ago we barely spoke to each other. I couldn't let anything bad happen to our friendship so I came out to her about my sexuality and made a deal with her saying that I would consider returning her affections if we were to make it out of this war alive. Only problem is, that's a really big if. I can only hope I haven't raised her hopes only to have them shattered when one of us is escorted off the field in a body bag. That being said, hey what's the harm in a little extra will and motivation to stay alive?

Wow, the inactive recruits are amazing considering that they haven't even been on a mission; to help pass time I just go over to the shooting range and try to shoot some moving targets by getting someone to throw them. I am going to try and coach some of the other recruits because I realized that I really enjoyed coaching Ayame. She told me of some other people who might appreciate some practice, the names I got were Anna and Persephone so I may have to try and track them down. I know I didn't talk about my family with anyone but when I was with Ayame, it reminded me of my little sister; I remember when me and my sister went on our hunting trip with my uncle, we were hunting pigeons and I got to shoot one with his shotgun. You don't know how much I would give to back to doing that but I guess right now my duty is to protect earth.

Soon, very soon I'm going out and I can't wait to finally get my hands on those alien bastards. Man I haven't been this excited for a mission since that Chinese jackass who killed that little girls family, but I need to keep my blood lust in check don't want to go full on berserker out on the field and end up shooting my commanding officer on the mission, and even though I don't like zhang I will keep my personal fillings off the battle field.

Now as for the class I want to be, I relay wanted to be a sniper but do to recent events I relay want to be an assault or a heave. Now I want to an assault so I can let out all my anger all my frustration and to finally let loose my blood lust and make the aliens fear me. And a the reason I want to be a heave is well we relay need that class here, but if I do become a heave my chance of getting killed rises because the aliens seem to manly target our heaves so if I become a heave I need to be extremely carful.

All so before I head out I need to ask the commander for a helmet, not for more protection but because I never go into battle with out one so hopefully the commander will give me a helmet before I go out.

Memory Log #8

After life decided to challenge my belief that things couldn't get worse for me, things actually start to look up. Anna was unusually kind to me, considering I was some foreign girl who had been nothing but rude to her when we first met. I couldn't understand why she was so patient with me, a clingy little brat that latched on to her like a needy child. It wasn't like with Elizabeth, whom I had spent a significant amount of time with, and who was the same age as me. Anna was six years my senior and barely knew me.

I asked her once, why are you doing this? Why help me? Why not tell me to go away? She just said, "Why help you? Because you needed help. What more reason do I need?" I think it was after this that...that I realized that I loved her. I needed to be careful with these feelings, though. I had to be sure I didn't have inflated feelings for her because of what she did for me, and that I loved her for her, and not because I was comparing her to Elizabeth. So I held back my urge to say something, not even letting on that I was attracted to women, let alone her, biding my time until I was sure about my feelings.

Then, after two years together, I got the call. An top secret organization wanted me to join them, having learned of my exploits during my short military career. I'll admit, the fact that they were planning to recruit Anna pushed my hand a bit, but I liked the idea of being a part of something more. I had hoped that I could do something good for this world, something that would help me atone for all the wrong I had done during my short life, and perhaps prove my worth, to the world, to Anna, to the ghosts of my past that haunt me, and to myself.

The new recruits came in but they didn't see much action and apparently the Commander was very impressed with one of the recruits that he made him a captain straight away. Unluckily I didn't get a promotion but the Commander did say that we have a very big mission coming soon and I don't know if I should be excited or scared. The terror mission I went on was hard as f*ck, we ran into these robotic "Cyber-discs" but luckily Booker was very experienced so he could take a shot really quickly against enemies that aren't in cover and Zhang had special ammo that hit hard on robotic enemies which meant that the mission went quite smoothly except for Jorn nearly dying.

I decided to have a look at the new recruits, that Stevie had a nice beard so I might consider growing my own beard. I received a letter from Zeke (one of my friends who really likes animals) and it read:

Dear Zain,

How's XCOM treating you? Heard you're a hot shot soldier but at least you're not hunting animals. I need to talk to you seriously; I got evicted from my apartment (haven't sold any weed in months), I tried ringing the others but they want nothing to do with a drug dealer; I just need a place to stay while I find a new job, I was wondering if I could stay at your place for a little while. I know that our past might not have been the best but you're the only person I know that gives a shit about me.

Try not to die

Well, today on the 27th of June At 10:02 I was finally issued my equipment, more than just my equipment. Around 9:52 they called me to the armory, I went with a surprise when I got there, they gave me a shotgun, red armor, and a dog tag with the name Gunner on it. They said "Due to my recent loss and the aggression I have shown, ill be good for front line combat, You should not worry about getting shot, an armor attachment gives you extra speed to dodge, plus you are fast in the first place, don't worry about saving your ammo, take two shoots if you have to. We watched you performance against Aaron and Ayame at the range the other day," that is a story for another time, " we have scored your at 82 and your will at 62 due to your recent breakdown."

I am officially ready for battle, they shot down another ship, that means I might be on a mission soon. As for my friends Aaron and Ayame, I wish them the best and hope that we will all be on the field at the same time.

Well I finally got my armor to day it basically says welcome to the team kid,so I'm now officially part of the project now and I cant wait for my first job.

So to day we had a terror mission and terror missions mean Cryssalids yea those damn bugs.So during this mission we met our first zombie so it is confirmed when a Cryssalid kills you you do turn into a zombie, which means i'm gonna have to one day kill Anna but that future may not happen, any way we met a new enemy a real robot type the scientist are calling this thing a cyberdisk, and it had a friend a drone it's kinda like the drones that are in the military only it has a gun on it,but there not that strong so they can be used a target practice on the field. So this terror missions went a little better then our last one, we saved eleven civilians so were getting better at saving civilians which is pretty good.

So in outher news my former room mate Stevie got promoted to Captain and he is an assault, I may congratulate him latter on and I wish him the best.

Video Log [Translated from Mandarin]

Ayame watches on off-screen computer, the sounds of gunfire coming from it. Ayame's recent tired look has been replaced by a look of excitement. "Wow, that went great," she says to the camera, her eyes staying fixed on the computer. "Everything is coming together. I was a bit worried after our recent losses, but things are looking up." She presses a button, then turns towards the camera. "That terror mission went pretty good. I was kind of worried.....okay, really worried win Jorn took that nasty hit, and I wish we could have saved more civilians, but with an estimated 61% civilian survival rate, our boys sure showed the world that X-COM means business. I bet those countries that dropped our funding regret now. It was also fun to see Zain bust some heads."

"Then we had that mission at the construction site. It went well until the end, when one of the floaters was able to sneak up on everyone. My heart skipped a beat when a saw it charging Anja, but she was able to swing around and blast it in the face before it even got a shot off. I'll have to try and congratulate her. I've only been able to talk to her once, and I've barely seen her since.

"Both Axton and Stevie were assigned to front-line duty." She smirks, saying, "Hitting the field is probably the best thing for Axton. It'll give him an outlet for his aggression, so he doesn't lose his head again and bust up my other leg." Her face shifts to worry. "Stevie, though, I'm not so sure of. They dumped an immediate rank of Captain on him, and while that comes with plenty of perks, its a lot of pressure. And...well, I've come to consider him a friend, and I hate to see him out there fighting while I'm stuck back here, regardless of rank. It just makes me wish I'd been chosen instead of him. I'm scared, yeah...terrified even, but if me being out there means keeping one of my friend back in safety, I'd gladly except it."

Ayame sighs deeply. "Well, the best I can do for now is give him my support." She shakes her head. "No, not just Stevie. They all deserve my support. Everyone is doing a fine job, but it's only going to get harder from here, and our new weapons and armor will do little for their mental stress. Maybe I...I can act as a sort of...moral officer. I could offer to give the soldiers someone to talk to. I've found that so much stress can be relieved by simply talking about what's wrong. Yeah...sounds like a good idea." Ayame reaches over and shuts off the camera.

Non-Combat Log 12 :

Its been a long day today... They put some of the Inactive recruits on the Squad... The only one I really know of them is Axton... I wish him luck out there... He'll need it, especially with this new Alien that they brought to the field... A Floating, Silver, Mini UFO that didn't look particularly threatening at first, but then it opened to reveal Thousands of different kinds of weapons, all pointed in our soldiers direction... The Aliens really went all out with this thing... They sent Three of them out on that mission! Three! They are really ramping up their Invasion... And I fear that this Floating Armory is not the worst they can throw at us...

They also had about six Cryssalids on this mission, and we were finally able to see These Zombie things.... in action... We knew they could turn people into zombies... but we have never seen it first hand... it's... Gruesome... To say the least...

I think that the Cryssalid are Beautiful in a way... I told Ayame that recently... I couldn't really tell What she thought about it though... The way they just glide effortlessly around the roughest terrain... Those mesmerizing, Golden Eyes of Thiers, and those Gleaming Silver Claws... I can't help but think... that maybe the person they once were might still be in there somewhere... if that's true would it be possible to control yourself while you are in that form? I suppose you could, if your will was strong enough...

My Dreams had been getting worse and worse every time I saw them In the field but now... Last night's Dream was different... I Saw the Cryssalids in a way I had never seen before... My dream showed me that underneath that Hard Carapace is actually a Beautiful Creature...

I don't know why the Dream I had the night before this mission was so... Peaceful... What could it mean I wonder... While I think about it I have a Routine that I need to get started, Wake up, get some clothes on, Get checked up, Practice with the new weapons, Eat something, get checked up again, then finally head to bed... I feel like I'm In a Rut believe it or not...

Video Log #1
Zain tries to figure out how to use his camera and by randomly pressing buttons, he manages to turn the camera on.

"Alright, I've decided to switch to videos because I really want to remember my time in XCOM when I'm back to my job, hopefully" Zain gives a small smile that slowly fades away. "I am really having fun helping the rookies and its pretty much the only the thing I do now at base but its nice to get to know them as well because they all have very interesting stories" Zain continues "Some of them are really young, I mean I'm 26 which isn't old but there are people in their early 20s and their ready to give up their lives; I truly admire people who have that much courage and I definitely know that if I was that young, I would not join XCOM." Zain's empathetical voice suddenly changes into a happy tone "I also heard there were a bunch of promotions including Anja becoming a captain as well which means we have 2 great supports and I might even visit her sometime."

Zain scratches his stubble and then starts to speak again "Didn't expect her to become a captain so fast but I guess after Rex died, we needed another support and that was Anja but it goes to show that your death is a burden for more for the people around you than yourself which is why I haven't tried to rush in and take every single alien out." Zain yawns then says "That's all for right now, I need to get some sleep." Zain puts his camera down, not realising that it is still on and goes to sleep.

Hello commander. I would like to congratulate you with your performance and everything you have done for us. All I ask for is a small favor. As you may or may not know, most people use video cameras, or computers to illustrate their thoughts. I have been using an old beat up diary, which I have brought from home.

It has almost been filled with doodles and logs from the past months. All I request is a new one of these for myself.

I would be grateful if you could fulfill this wish.

Respectfully Yours,

Kjear

Aaron: "Man im gunna regret this" Aaron raises his hand and knocks on Axtons front door. "AX! We gotta talk."

Axton: Axton cracks his door open."What the hell do you want."

Aaron: "No need to be Abrasive, I came Under the banner of peace" Aaron sighs "You ok? I know you and Collins were close and he was a good friend of mine to."

Axton: "Get to the point."

Aaron: "Collins is my point!" Aaron Crosses his arms "He asked me to think about if i wanted to die with regret or if i wanted any one around me to die and I regret the last moment i had with them." Aaron sucks in a big breath of air " You were a huge asshole to me. But you are your own person and i shouldnt have lashed out at you like that so i Apologize for that. I also forgive you for the things you said." Aaron scratches his head "I would appreciate it if you didnt have to look at me with all the venom to"

Axton: Really Colin put you up to this, Ayame tried to get me to apologize to you and it didn't work. Now your telling me Colin told you to apologize to me, now that sounds like something Colin would say but if you expect me to apologize to you that will not happen.

Aaron: "I didnt expect that, i came her to apologize and forgive, what you do now is your own decision. Collins suggested this to me, he didnt force me, i could have made the decision to ignore you but he was right i dont want to live with the possibility of accuring more regret. Good luck in the field" Aaron turns around praying silently in his head for Axton to be well. He walks down the hall.

Axton: "Wait if your gonna say all that to me then I can at least explain why I called you a bitch."

Aaron: " Ummmmm okay" Aaron stops "whys that?"

Axton: "OK the reason I called you a bitch was not because your were sad because you lost your family i'm not that cold."

Aaron: "Alright then why good sir?" He says with a touch of sarcasm.

Axton: "The reason I called you a bitch, was because you FUCKING blamed yourself for your families death. You cant blame your self for their death you did every thing you could to protect them. You crying over shit you could not control really pissed me off, and that is why I called you a bitch."

Aaron: " Right, well thats your deal man. Like i said good luck i hope to get out there soon" Aaron vigoursly shakes axtons hand and walks down the hall.

Well my morning was interesting,it started with Aaron coming to my room and kind of apologizing to me for his actions a few months back, and I explained to him why I called him a bitch. But I still don't like him because he's a Christian,Catholic hoistley I don't care which one he is because I hate the Christian comity for a lot of reasons which I relay don't fell like getting into so i'm gonna skip this part.

Any way i'm kinda getting laugh at by most of the guys on base because of the color of my armor, now I relay have no problem with my armors color even though it's not my first first choice I would chose some thing different but until i'm promoted to squiddy I can live with this, but when I get carpace armor I hope I get the same armor a Lemon because his armor was pretty bad ass.

So I hope to get out on the field soon and until then I can train and keep training and studying on the alien the alien menus. Axton reaches for his camera and turns it off.
