Training was tough. Really tough, but totally worth it. Through selection, the staff sergeant singled me out as a supporting character and being fast on my feet made me perfect for a support role. I'm getting to know the other soldiers, who are mostly new recruits like me; but so far Commander Odd has said few words to me. However he did say this: "we're definitely going to be needing you, so stick around. Hopefully." This really made me feel welcome and important. But certainly discerning...
Nervous as I may be, I am very excited for my first face-to-face encounter with these bastards!
I just pray to hope I make the team!

With the every field officer in the medbay, it was up to Sergeant Jasper to lead the squad into the fray in Argentina. To top that off, there were only five soldiers capable of getting out into the field. The only thing they had to make up for that was bringing a lot of firepower. Despite a significant resistance, the squad managed to pull through without any fatalities, they even managed to capture a muton.

I am thoroughly impressed by the squad's performance, Smokes deserves that promotion to an officer rank, he led them well. After the medical staff was done with them, I made sure to personally congratulate all five of them.

The new recruits came in today and I was assigned to introduce them to the base and our operations. Let's hope they do as well as the squad did in Argentina.

All those years training, the countless hours spent perfecting my aim at the range and the drills Sarge used to put me through finally payed off. I have been issued and transferred to the X-Com project. The rumors i've heard about the "research" going on around here kept me awake sometimes at night, aliens they say. I have no access to the Research Wing but i did manage to get a glimpse of a Gatling Lazer of sorts. And if that kind of tech is just lying around then hell, rumors might actually be true. Commander Odd promised me lazer-y weapons, i have my hopes up.

I went to see the Medical Wing of the facility as i've heard thats where the guys from the last mission got put. To my suprise there were high ranking personnel in there aswell, some even higher than me. They looked beat up as if they went through hell and back, but still they kept a light mood, none too serious. Even met Col. Grelite, the dead eye sharpshooter. The man is a damn idol in this place, and by right he deserves it. Even had a chance to play darts with him, and i still lost despite him throwing from the bed he was recovoring from.

As i walked out of Medical i remembered how the commander said he wanted me to be more agressive on the battlefield, i just hope i dont end up like the rest.

I arrived in Africa this morning only to be shoved into a dark car and driven to some mountains. All this talk of 'Secret Operatives' I had heard on the news was certainly worrying, yet hugely interesting for a soldier like myself. Unlike most of the folks at this base I've got a family to care about, so risking my life fighting these aliens isn't a high priority for me.

We ran through basic training, and I was assigned a sniper role after some good shots on the range. Some of the other recruits were talking about some other sniper called 'Grelite', who's the single biggest threat to the invaders with his God-like aim. It'll be nice to have some competition. According to the drill sergeant he just on his way out of the infirmary so I headed there to take a look at this legend.

And what a legend he was. This guy's probably seen more battles than any body here, he's seen his friends get killed in front of him, and there he sat on a medical bed, calm as a sedated alien. His black helmet lay by bed, the word 'Loki' scratched into it. I guess when you're as respected as he is around here no one really cares about your gear's condition. He even gave me a couple of tips which I'll have to put to good use. What a guy.

I headed back to the barracks to recover from the jet lag and started writing this up. I hope I'll be of good use here.

My first mission, although a success i have taken most of the beating. The Heavy Laser kept me calm for the most of it. It all seemed so easy at first when we got off that Skyranger... find the VIP, get him and get out.
The area we got dropped in had from little to no cover, we had to split up as a result. Snipers stayed on the high ground sweeping for targets while i thought it would be best to scout ahead, and to my suprise i ran into what i thought were humans. I hid behind an alien drop pod, observing the 3 "men" as they just stood there armed with plasma weapons. Before i could act, sniper fire started raining down. The 3 of them exploded into poisonous clouds, as i looked back at Grelite and Loco both of them giving my a thumbs up, i felt safe knowing they had my back.

By this point i was separated from the other half of the team that was handling business on the left side. I mearly kept a lookout for any flanking attempts, tho not a most exciting role to play in this operation it was a crucial one. I decided to advance to a pillar next to the stairway when i spotted 3 more Thin bastards, immediately pulling back behind the statue i looked back and one of them was already running at us. Stu took a shot, missing and allowing the alien to take cover, spitting a cloud of poison in his face at the same time. As expected the snipers clean up the mess which allowed us to press on.

It wasnt long before another one decided to take its chances and run into forword cover. I saw my chance, took a deep breath had no time to aim, quickly looking at the sights before i sprayed a line of hot lasers in his general direction, i had him. Feeling overconfident i dropped my guard, that was when i saw his buddy jump in from my right. No time to react, he shot me right on the shoulder, it was burning, it was stinging my eyes, i could not move and could barely see what was happening. But this time it wasnt the snipers that had to clean up the mess, it was non other than Stu. Rushing in by the statue he quickly took that freak down giving me the chance to run to Jasper and get some medical attention. I owe him big.

After i got patched up i wasted no time. Rushing into cover behind a lamp, i waited for a shot with my rocket. And just when the plasma burn wounds werent enough, those scumbags decided to throw in a little poison just for the heck of it. As we find the target and begin the escort, Thin boys start dropping in a line right on the other side, barely able to stand on my feet i deploy my launcher and blow 2 of them sky-high. In a desperate attempt the aliens dropped right ontop of us, the team had no trouble clearing them out. My only concern was getting out alive so i limped for the ship, and after the VIP was secured i was safe.
Now im at base, on a bed besides Jasper, discussing about what just happened. Not the best start, but it sure beats being in a body bag right now.

The Council contacted Commander Odd for a VIP extraction mission in Shanghai. We were to find a man named Thomas Hutch and get him to the dropship safely. Right out the dropship, Loco and I took the high-ground to provide covering fire for the squad. Thin Men had taken full control of the area and it wasn't long before we spotted the first few hostiles.

Rosen provided the sights for me and Loco to take them out with a few simple shots before they even knew what hit them. I saw Rosen look back and raised my thumb at him, giving him the all clear. After reloading my rifle Jasper spotted some more Thin Men, but they were out of range from me and Loco, so Jasper pulled back, hoping to draw them out of cover.

When one of the Thin Men came running out, having all of us gun for it, meaning we had no time to react quickly to the other, spitting its poison onto Kadratos. We were able to take it out directly after, but it did mean Kadratos was somewhat withered down. I finished off the last Thin Man from that group and moved up to the bridge with Loco for a tactical advantage.

More Thin Men were set up on the other side of the road, across from the limousine the VIP was last known to be at, but again me and Loco didn't have the line of sight and Rosen was forced to retreat. One of the Thin Men leapt down onto the road and took cover behind a car before spitting poison at Stu. I was only able to take the shot right after to take it out. Jasper was able to get Stu some medical attention while Rosen was to face the other two Thin Men alone.

Rosen managed to take down one with an amazing shot, but that allowed the other to shoot Rosen right in the shoulder. When Stu saw this he ran right up to the Thin Man and blasted it in the face with his rifle. Now Rosen could retreat to Jasper for some first aid. Right after, Jasper and Stu moved into the streets, making it to the limousine.

Hutch's bodyguards told us that he had taken cover behind a van down the street, so Jasper started heading that way. Down the street more Thin Men were awaiting Jasper and Stu. Again Stu was the one to face the heat first, getting poisoned once again. I was able to take down one, but another took a few shots at Jasper. Right after that Rosen got poisoned, right before I was able to pull off another shot, marking another one down.

Stu was able to take down the last Thin Man and Jasper reached the VIP. I could hear Hutch's relief through my headset, but this was along from over. More Thin Men came dropping in, but I was able to take down one, allowing Rosen to obliterate two with his rocket launcher and Jasper to finish off the last one.

As the VIP and our squad escorting him moved up to the dropship two more came dropping in right beside them, but Loco and Kadratos made quick work of them. I took the time to drop down into the road and toward the dropship and all of us made it to the dropship as a unit.

We were headed back to base with the VIP, getting medical attention to those of us who needed it. Stu and Kadratos got their well-earned promotions. Though Rosen and Jasper will be in medbay for a while, this mission provided much needed success and hopefully will motivate the other squaddies.

When the Commander read out the roll call for this mission, I was a little disappointed. I guess with Loco and Grelite there's not much use for a new sniper, they've got everything covered in the long-range-killing-high-fiving department. It was apparently a special request from those damned politicians that run this whole operation to have us work on this mission, so I think having a squad the Commander could rely on was a priority. I headed to the canteen for some brunch where I ran into one of the guys from R&D.

We started talking about all this new equipment we've been getting. Most of it is either salvaged from the aliens we capture or made from whatever scraps they leave behind. It got me thinking- maybe these aliens aren't too different to us after all. Maybe something attacked them and they started using it's technology against it, that's how they have all this mad gear. We discussed what we'd like to do once this mess was all over. It's weird, when I was serving with the PMC no one ever thought what they would do after leaving. But here, everyone's constantly thinking about the future. It's a nice show of hope. He said that he wants to develop the techniques they use in the medbay to get our troops back in action and expand it to common medical practises. He's going to change the world, that kid. Me? I think I'll just be happy to get back home to my family. Maybe if the secrecy of the project is ever removed I'll write a book about it. Who knows? Humanity is getting smarter by the week and the future is limitless.

I got some shut eye in the barracks but woke up when one of the other new guys looked over at the wall. It had a bunch of pictures stuck to it, they must have been of some of the poor guys and girls who bought it in the field. I didn't recognise the names, but each picture had little messages scrawled around it. One that caught my eye was of a guy called 'Linus', the picture of a smiling man playing pool in the barracks, an impressive helmet placed on his stool. 'Brother in arms' was written in shaky writing by it, from Grelite.

Rosen and I were on our first mission and were thoroughly reassured by the presence of the 2 legendary snipers (Grelite and LocoRojo). Rightly so too! "We all miss" the guys say in the barracks. "All but those two".
I left thinking this to be a myth but then when they had time to line up a shot: they did not miss. I look up to them in awe. After my promotion ceremony (which I am very proud of) LocoRojo said a quick "congratulations" as we all had a drink to the success of the mission. With my promotion comes more simple training and a bit of shooting practice as well as a thicker set of armour. I was also told that if i want to keep my role as a support I'll have to learn to run faster so these next few days will be spent working on that. Heavy kit and long treks. Lots of hill sprints.

I feel like I needed the training a lot. During the mission I did take 3 medium range shots and get lucky with them but when under serious pressure I sprayed and prayed even though I had time to think. This would have resulted in a casualty if I did not have Kadratos and LocoRojo with their experience to take the shots.

I knew battle was going to be tough but I was never going to expect alien puke to be thrown at me from across the road. That was the nastiest thing i have ever smelt, felt or even had to be near. My hair, well what's left of it, still smells terribly awful. I've had six showers but still the other troops are stabbing at me. They say I'll be sleeping in the foundry if the smell doesn't go after tomorrow. It hurt but it was nothing serious. If it had got into any wounds it would have been a lot more dangerous according to the med-bay. I saw it burn through some of my armour but it neutralised before it could do any harm to the skin. Rosen however was not nearly as lucky. He suffered nasty burns and serious damage. He will be back to fighting form in 9 days. That has to be tough for his first mission.

I feel like my luck will boost the other's morale.
Seeing Rosen barely walking but still smiling is definitely a good sign of the days to come.

Commander Odd is most definitely a respectable man and I am very proud to be serving under his command. I am truly grateful to be in the position I am in.

As far as first contact goes, killing three of them is definitely a good way to say hi. Sounds like it impressed the boss too: "Congratulations Stu. You're fantastic."

[Thanks everybody for reading. Any feedback is welcome.]

The aliens have been doing nothing for the past few weeks and we used the time to upgrade the base, R&D been working overtime with plasma and new fighter jet and we called it the firestorm and now they are working on new armor, Commander Odd got a good report to his bosses, As for me training is going well in heavy weaponry with the new modded Alien grandees and a new improved ammo reload system works wonders and a new lab been set up and this lab focus on mental powers tests on people and the first genie pig was Grelite and been on ice for 10 days hoping he can be the first mentalist if he does have mental powers after the test i may have to have tin foil on my head for some time and on my off days from training i just get my books and just read until my time comes it fells so good when there is no war with aliens from mars and i think that were they the same aliens from H.G. Wells War of the worlds the idea is mad in my mind i fear that when i return to my home after this war will it be in smoking ruins. i may just be ahead of my self.

I've been spending these last few days giving Waricck, the new Sniper on the team, a few pointers on the art. I believe he's taken to the guidance well and will be able to do well in the field. He's taken my place on the squad while I undergo testing in the Psionics Labs. Who knew I'd spend most of my birthday enclosed in a pod, having the science team scan my brain. I do like the new-lab-smell of the place.

Journal Entry: It's been a quiet few days here at the base so Grelite's been giving me some training over in the barracks. We've got more in common than I thought. He's let me know about the weapons we use here, it's far more advanced than anything I've used before. We were in the canteen having some breakfast when he gets the call over the intercom from the commander to head to the newly constructed Psi-labs. I've got no idea what they're testing him for in there, those scientists could be doing anything.

I woke up the next morning to find a black helmet on the end of my bed with a note from the commander attached. Welcome to the squad. With that, I headed to the armory to gear up. Grelite was right, I was issued a scoped weapon with a high powered laser stored within and some heavily plated armour. We headed out to Nigeria in the drop ship to rescue someone who had escaped from the aliens.

Me and Loco acted as cover for the other troops, and he was able to nail one of the targets through my spotting. I managed to grab my first kill pretty early on, shooting what the guys referred to as 'Thin Men', for obvious reasons. After we had located the VIP they started spitting disgusting clouds over us. Luckily I was unscathed but some of the other guys were coughing up black bile.

I headed up to higher ground to cover our ex-filtration when more of the Thin Men came in. I tried to get a shot on one but I just couldn't catch it in my sights. It then puked that cloud over me and it somehow worked it's way through the helmet's seal. It was up inside of my helmet, up my nose, everywhere. I fired a shot where it had come from but only struck the car behind him then ducked down to avoid a counter attack.

The guys were just moving the VIP into heavier cover when burning plasma struck me in the neck. I knew I wasn't going to be able to walk out of my position if I stayed there so I dragged myself down back with the rest of the squad. The medics managed to help me back to the drop ship back in one piece, along with the VIP.

Once we got back to base it was a straight trip to the infirmary for me. Apparently my throat's all burnt up due to the plasma and the bile. The doc' said I should be back in fighting condition in five days. Five days? If it wasn't for this technology we keep on looting from these aliens I'd be out for life with an injury like that. I'm not going to lie, even though I've seen some awful stuff getting this injury's really shaken me up a bit. I hope I don't panic in the future. It's not good for any of the guys here, or my girls back home.

The doc's got me on a ventilator for a while until whatever chemical's they're spraying on my throat sorts out the breathing problems that Thin Man gave me. Glad I took one of them down though, when this is all over I can say I played my part. I was planning to head to the Psi-labs and see how Grelite's getting on and maybe run him through how the mission went, but I guess that's not happening with my breath being like gravel down a well.

I feel like Im having deja vu, as i sit in the med-bay after again, escorting a council VIP. But i cant complain, i escaped a beating this time. Oddly enough Grelite was sent to the Research Wing just before the mission, i did a little poking around and managed to "persuade" a scientist to share some secrets. He said some mumbo jumbo about "trying to unlock his full potential! A strong Will should be enough" he said. Our conversation was interrupted as i was called for the mission, and this got me thinking... is my will strong enough? And what is this "full potential" ?

Our insertion was much better this time, we had a Local Park to work with, it had lots of cover. As we sweeped the area we came across more "Thin Men", i had a bone to pick with them. After taking defensive positions and a little bit of heat (mostly Jasper), we waited. One came running down with lightning speed as it was expecting to be fired upon. 3 men including myself sprayed a laser barrage right at him, only to watch him dodge each laser. After he let us waste all of our shots he stopped in the open and suprise suprise, i was met with toxic sludge. I wish Waricck hadnt missed with that first shot he got off.

As the poison was taking its toll on me i decided it would be best to take cover in the bus. I moved in and took position, by this point a Thin Man managed to get past Stu. As if i wasnt sticky enough i peek thrue the window and instantly find myself covered in even more toxic goop. Enraged, i quickly wipe my eyes and notice 2 Thin Men running for cover. I took out my launcher and furiously bashed the window open with it, launched a rocket and just watched the satisfying explosion.

After that, i got some quick medical attention. We could hear the VIP screaming for help but she was not making this any more easier. Running into more enemies, we again, took defensive positions and waited. As we waited we heard plasma shots and before i knew it, i was feeling the painful burns on the side of my right arm. I had a spare rocket but had no way to use it, i had to rely on my team to keep me covered long enough for me to get a chance to use it. We heard more shots incoming, but i was prepared this time. I hid behind the smoke Stu provided and saw plasma flying right above my head. Luckily the bastards were hiding behind a truck that was lit on fire which was a big suprise to them when it exploded in their faces.

A few minutes later we find the VIP and begin the escort, as we are escorting she panics and thats when they start coming. I was able to get 2 shots off on advancing enemys, and to my dissapointment they both missed, i was beginning to doubt myself of having any let alone "full" potential. That was untill i managed to clear the LZ by squeezing a rocket between the parks obstacles, hitting a car in return taking out both enemys that were just waiting to take a shot at the VIP! I felt the sweet sensation of redemption.

When we got to base i began heading to the Medical Wing, on my way i saw the commander who congratulated me on my new promotion. I had the huge urge to ask him about the pods, but that was something i was never supposed to know so i kept it to myself. I look back at these 2 missions i was on and see that i, have the will to sirvive.

Today was like any other day with aliens attacking once more and commander odd got a team together with McBackstabber, Kadratos, Stu Poole, HomesliceHobbes, Little Dorgan and a fellow heavy named DarkChaosReign. during getting the crew together i think to myself that today will be my day i felted that the time was now for me to strike a crushing blow to these alien freaks but it was my fellow heavy class in training with me DarkChaosReign and i say well done on making the cut go out there and tell me what it was like to be on a mission for me my friend. so the team left and i all alone once more to train for the big day for a shot to make Commander Odd proud. some time later the team got back and my friend DarkChaosReign was in the medical and he only going to be there for 3 days but our teacher HomesliceHobbes was killed by a mix of a new version of a floater and an alien grandee so after the passing of HomesliceHobbes i went to see DarkChaosReign and stayed and talk to keep him company strange i never did this till now and asked what happened out there today and asked who is going to be our teacher now and i left soon as we were done.

The doc's still got me on the ventilator. My throat's feeling a lot better but he reckons that it's better safe than sorry. It's a shame, I want to get back out there and fight but I can't in the state I'm in. I obviously can't be up and around the base with half my throat missing so I've been getting the medical staff to give me a run down over the days.

My mentor's still having his brain poked and probed by those scientists down in the lab. The doc says they're 'discovering him', whatever that means. I've never really cared for science. He better be in one piece by the time they're done with him. I hope he's out soon, I don't want my first mission back to be one where I mess up without his guidance.

There's apparently some sort of research into some super-heavy armour going on over in R&D. Seems a bit pointless in my opinion, we've always been a mobile task force so having even more kit to weigh us down seems like a bad idea on the Commander's part. I'd prefer some sort of gear to keep me mobile or make my shots better. If I said that a few months ago I'd of been called too hopeful but now technology is coming on in leaps and bounds. When all this is over, the world's going to be changed forever. That 'Elerium' stuff that half this complex generates it's power from is going to completely get rid of the oil industry, something that's already running out. I guess that will be a relief for everyone.

I can't write when I'm stuck in this bed so I'm having one of the nurses write down what I dictate. I can tell she's really into me. Must have a thing for guys in uniform.

Anyway, we lost a guy today. A heavy going by the name of 'HomesliceHobbes'. Can't say I knew the guy but I'm sure he'll be missed. The guys are saying he was taken down in a fight with a new type of alien, a more armoured version of one we've met before. The aliens must be pulling out all their sleeved cards now that we've got the upper hand with this technology and training.

I got a 'get well soon' card from Lucy today. She's got no idea what her Daddy's doing out here, she's only seven. The girls must be panicking like mad with me in this state. I've got no idea how much the PR department here are telling them. I'm sure they must know more than the general public, I had no idea that this place even existed before I was recruited.

Three more guys took up some beds in the infirmary. We're running out of room with the amount of guys we've got here. The doc says they'll all be out before me, I'm in a much worse condition.

I want to get healed up and grab myself a promotion by the time Grelite gets out of the lab. I'm sure he'll be proud of me.

My breath's sounding less like gravel down a well and more like sand, so I should be out of here soon and off of this damn ventilator.

Today R&D had just done with a new type of armor and now there working on plasma sniper guns and a huge UFO was shot down with one jet with heavy damage and most of today i had to go into repairs on that jet and yet again when we get a team together to clean up the UFO i was told all the A-sward was better and they were sent the team was Presariov, Rosen0x5, LocoRojo, McBackstabber, Jasper.VTH and Kadratos and commander Odd told me maybe next time. So after storing out jet repairs i just go to the command center to do what i do best so people say for today mission and i may just say that A-Sward gets all the missions and i am just a clean up crew and i train hard and i want a chance to be on a mission and i fell when i make these entry i seam to run out of good steam on story or i am getting a head again back to today mission from what i saw on the TV. the mission was going just well until a huge army of heavy Floaters and normal Mutons until a sneak attack from 2 normal floaters and then i just loss the feed on Kadratos and i just report it...........
End Of Recording..........

I finally found out why the training was getting harder. Commander Odd just promoted me to Captain and had me prep with the main squad. Apparently they shot down a UFO and now their sending us out to investigate. Finally, time shooting something other than a dummy, right?
Well, once we got there it seemed quiet, like everything inside was dead. As soon as we started moving inside, the aliens flanked us from outside. I guess they'd been hiding in the smoke or something. Anyway, the snipers took them down pretty quickly. While investigating the room, we found these kind of energy elevators, which seemed cool if not a little unnecessary.
We opened a weird plasma door to the next room, but were greeted by a ton of aliens. I got a shot or two off, and Loco pretty much saved me from a huge guy. As we continued to fight our way thr0ugn, vve........
