I don't think are making that comparison that any real world minority group eats human flesh. But they are, in Canon lore, a minority of Elves that were shunned and cast out due to a factor in their birth that they have no control over. I think that's the comparison people are trying to make.

That would be a cool backstory if they expanded on that more. Like... Actually showed it. The lore says that they were shunned and hated but do we really see them examine that more in the media? No. Not really. The Elves aren't even painted as being bad people despite the fact that they did that...

Armies don't just exist to exist though. It's just lazy. It's just so disappointing for me personally to see so much potential for story and lore wasted by using 1 dimensional brainless mooks.

Most people took a middle of the road stance I thought. At least that's how I saw it, but fair enough.

Like. Just because I stopped talking doesn't mean you won the discussion. I just realized that I probably wasn't going to really convince any of you.

Except no. No one proved anything. Generic Baddies are ultimately forgettable padding and have little place in cohesive and tightly written story. And no. The Farther you take your Worldbuilding the more people can actually be invested in your world. Would you honestly rather crave more...

*Hug* You're a perfectly good writer friend. While I may disagree with you on writing philosophy, Black is right, it really doesn't matter as long as people enjoy it, and I enjoy it. I mean If turning your brain off Wasn't enjoyable, then Doom wouldn't be nearly as popular.

Okay. But if you replace the Orcs with let's say... Lizard People. Do you really lose anything? No. You don't. The fact that they're Orcs and they're there add nothing to the story. Like I said, I am not suggesting you develop every individual Orc, but the secret to good world building is...

Antagonists are supposed to be the driving force of your Protagonists Growth, even the minions should help facilitate that in some way, otherwise, why ever have them, they are filler. And I don't know about you but I hate filler content, enemies that exist just to die and then more Enemies show...

Yes. Let's just play out the same tired Villian archetype of "Me Orc. Me Green. Human Bad. Kill Humans! Rarggh!" Truly this is compelling storytelling. Using the LotR Orcs as an example, Shadow of Mordor actually made you care about them by making them interesting and giving them an actual...

DnD has a big problem with reducing entire ethic groups to one single giant personality type and it's all really annoying. Thankfully they're getting better, though slowly.

Yeah. That's the problem. It's rare to see nuanced Orcs. DnD Orcs are basically just all one note stereotypes. I think that's what people have a problem with. They are also literally a marginalized minority in the world of DnD, they are forced to live far away from Humans because of their...

Except. Literally Orcs are a marginalized minority. It's what orcs were originally based on too.
